Postilaatikossa oli tänään käsinkirjoitettu kuori. Kummitätini asuu lähellämme, ja hän antoi minulle kaarnanpalaseen käärityn aarteen. En raaski heittää käärettä pois, niin kauniisti se kehystää kahta rintaneulaa.

Or in other words: This little treasure was put on the mailbox, with a handwritten envelope to me from my godmother. Isn't she lovely.

Sain syntymäpäiväkortiksi Dianan & Charlesin kihlajaiskuvan. Charles nuorena älykkönä pääsee ehdottomasti kirjoituspöydälleni kehyksiin.

Or in other words: My birthday card was an old postcard of Diana & Charles. I've found there's something about royals, particularly in Prince Charles that's both hugely tragic, ironic and wonderful, kitsch and sad. 

Charles as thoughtful is definately getting on my writing desk. But I'll probably frame the other two as well!

Divarista etsin sinä päivänä oikeastaan pientä kivaa viemistä serkun uudelle vauvalle, mutta vahingossa ostin myös mielettömän kauniin kappaleen Nikolai Gogolin romaania Taras Bulbaa. Aurinkolasit ostin jo joulunaikaan Kokkolasta second hand liikkeestä.

Or in other words: That day I was looking for a small book for my cousin's newborn baby girl. I fell for this old copy of Nikolai Gogol's Taras Bulba. The charming covers make the book a perfect everyday object. 

The sunglasses are an amusing find from months back at a second hand shop in Kokkola.

Hiljaa hyvä tulee ja muita huonoja kliseitä. 

En ole koskaan ollut kodinsisustamisessa pikku hiljaa rakentavaa tyyppiä. Haluan kaiken tänne heti. Poikkis on samanlainen. On ihan sietämätöntä asua epätyydyttävässä, keskeneräisessä kodissa, jossa täydelliset kohdat vuorottelevat ihan kivojen tai ihan hirveiden paikkojen ja tavarayhdistelmien kanssa. Olisin mielummin ilman kuin eläisin ruman esineen kanssa.

Valitettavasti omakotiasuminen vaatii enemmän resursseja kuin minulla on. Se on jo miljoonas syy asua pienessä kerrostalossa. Esimerkiksi tämä matto, joka ruksattiin ostoslistalle jo vuosi sitten, pääsi lattialle vasta viime viikonloppuna. Siis äntligen kertaa tuhat - vihoviimeinen deadline oli jouluna, tai tammikuussa viimeistään. Ei vaan ole varaa. 

Kokeiltiin mattoa erilaisiin paikkoihin; ei sitten päätynytkään korostamaan mustavalkoisilla raidoillaan ihan tyystin toisenlaista huonekalua. Kirjastohuone on liian pieni.

Or in other words: Doing stuff little by little is not my thing. I want everything placed right away. And am rather without than look at ugly pieces day by day. I believe ugly homes make unhappy peple - at least it makes me sour. 

But this house takes a lot more resources to function than either of us has. (Even though we scavenge quite a bit.) My reason number hundred thousand to live in a small city flat; a lot less to furnish. For example, this fairly priced Ikea rug was on our shopping list already in last June. But it took till last weekend to get the thing actually on here. 

After trying out on various places the rug finally went on a whole diffrent room. Although I liked the contrast between the black-and-white striped rug and my old, decorative yellow sofa, the room was too small. Sort of pity, contrasts are cool.

Vaikka just tällä hetkellä en innostu oikein mistään, saa kevätmuoti varmasti minut pähkinöiksi. Ihan kohta hiplaan kaupoissa kuin ensirakkauttani. Siihen asti pitäisi yrittää käyttää sitä, mitä kaapissa jo on - esimerkiksi miksen osaa pitää näitä silkkipaitoja??  

Or in other words: Even though right this moment I'm not particularly sold by spring fashion, I'm far too sure it'll make my head spin in time way too soon.'Till then should be wearing what's already in mine - these silk shirt, for one. How come I don't know how to?

Sohvan ja ikkunan välissä yhdessä nurkassa on hankala kulma. Halusin sinne sivupöydän. Harkitsin ostavani sinne Ikean neliönmuotoista Lackia. Kun Ikea alensi neliönmuotoisen Lack-pöydän hintaa, harkitsin ostosta uudelleen.

Pöytä kirpputorilta maksoi neljä kertaa enemmän, mutta siinä onkin hauskat kulmat. Se kannettiin kotiin viikko sitten.

Or in other words: Mixing new and old makes nice comparisons. We have quite a lot of simple Ikea, our sofa Klippan & coffee table Lack. In the uncomfortable corner at living room I wanted a small side table. I talked about buying the squared Lack table in white. When Ikea lowered the price of it, I talked about buying it again. 

The table that moved in with us last a week ago is actually four times the price of it. But the old table has some nice corners.

Vielä 9 kuukauden jälkeen muutosta on vieläkin joitakin purkamattomia laatikoita. Löysin niistä astioita.  

Or in other words: Today I found these objects from unpacked cardboard box. The wine & cocktail glasses came from a flea market once, the wooden cutting board from Ikea I think and the cake stand is missing something.

Unohdin viikonloppuna käydä ruokakaupassa. Sunnuntain köyhää ateriaa paikkaamaan tein sitruunalla maustettua mustikkarahkaa. 

Jouluna astiastomme täydentyi vihdoin kauan kaihoamillani japanilaisella sinivalkoisella keramiikalla. 

- Parat japanilaiset.

Or in other words: Forgot to go to the supermarket. To enforce the light lunch I made up some blueberry curd with a lemon twist as a dessert. I love to mix the whipped cream with the curd. 

The blueberries came straight from the freezer to the bowl. When melting, blueberries added interesting colour swirls.
